Parched
by Robert Beideman
Hello all,
First post to this particular forum...
Some mud for your consideration...captured in the Escalante region last October.
Nikon D700
105mm Macro
1/400th
f11. .
ISO200
B&W Conversion
I tried this shot with harsh light, with diffused light, and in shadow...and...
I have to say that the direct sunlight version yielded the image that was most pleasing to my eye. The direct light reflected enough off the walls of the cracks to be able to see into the cracks just enough to get a feeling for the bottom edges of the mud slabs.
It's not often that I'd choose a direct sunlight shot over a shot with a diffuser...
C&C are welcome!
Robert

Even if you had take this shot with a diffuser or in shade you may have been able to bring out contrast in the shot. Hmmm...That would make a good Image Processing blog post.
I love your diagonal comp - and the tiny craters add so much interest. Beautiful shot!
