Hawfinches (male & female)
Nothing like being greedy. ! No photo masterpiece but certainly a rare natural history moment perhaps   Notice the nice blue breeding condition beak.
Usual pool set up. Full frame ! -so bad composition - needs more canvas right and left so might have a go later.
Got several of each bird but only the one of both together.
Another Diazapam moment indeed.!

PS Difficult filtered sunlight so a few probs with water highlights cloned out

Well, I think its a fabulous shot! I can appreciate that the dappled sunlight gave you some problems but it gives a wonderful feel to the picture.

that is impressive John. I didn't realise their beaks went blue like this.

Bet you can't get 3

A fine species to have in front of your lens and a good, clear image showing the difference between male and female.

As usual John, another superb shot of a very difficult to photograph species, and I too have never seen both male and female birds in the same shot, so big congrats on the capture.

The Hawfinch and the Dartford warbler are the two bird species I have always wanted to see ever since I got interested in ornithology at 16 years old and I still haven't seen either of them. Fabulous shot John

Thanks all.
I got several with the single birds after and before the female left so I could put some canvas on each end to make it balance better but where do you stop ?
Nice job for the winter.!
Interesting point about pool photography. I went in pool two hide yesterday and because the 50-500 is kaput, I had to use the 300 sigma with a 1.4 on.
Pheasants magpies and pigeons came in front of the hide and of course - too big in frame. !
I didn't realise how useful the small end of the bigma was .

You and your pool, what don't you get?! I particularly like the fact that both their faces are nicely lit. Good job.
