Bougainvillea

Surprise, another high key image. No I have not defected from the dark side. Trying to focus in the dark is straining my eyes so I am having a break from shooting in the dark.

This is actually following a suggestion by Bob Duff on my crabapple post to emulate yet another Harold (Davis) who create high key images by taking many increasing exposures until almost total whiteness and blending them in PS to display the translucency of flowers. I did not actually do this in this image although I did try it. In this image, I selectively increase the exposure in the darker areas in ACR and Viveza 2 and desaturated the image slightly to create almost the same effect as stacking multiple overexposed images. I find the color rendition easy to maintain than using overly exposed images where the color can be very washed out. Stem cloned out in this image.

D90 300mm+TC F32 1/13. Thanks for looking and comments on what you think about this image is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the pointer Bob. You must read widely and seem knowledgeable about many other photog's work

Nice ....really nice! Just to the upper left of those two little blossoms is that curled leaflet, subtle shading, and great detail....wickedly sweet. Love the darker and creamy centered blooms that contrast with the translucency. Great job.

Gary, I really like this.

It makes me think of the two flowers traveling from LL to UR in a fragile (lighter than air) bougainvillea "balloon" :toast:

Beautiful, Gary ! The flower, without its stem, seems to float like a kite. Love the variety of pink tones and the lighting which really brings out the petal textures.

This is an exceptional image for my tastes Gary. Love the processing but the composition and subject certainly match the processing. Gorgeous...

Really wonderful technique you have presented Gary. I guess I too have migrated somewhat to the "darkside," but I really like this as well. I like how the light transparently filters thru the petals and also the petal veins detail.

Well done!

Great job Gary. The translucency is coming through without loss of colour nor detail. :toast: :toast:

This is really cool, Gary. Great creativity. I'm going to have to try this sometime. I described the technique for the spiral photo if you wanted to check back in over there. :toast:
