Heron in Early Morning

This is the 4th pic of this Heron's flight. We were leaving Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge early on New Years Day. He/she was on the edge of the road by the lake, and as my wife drove slowly by I was hanging out the window ready to take pics. I wish I had gotten a little more of the lake ahead of the heron in the shot, but as it was I was happy to have gotten the heron in the shot. I didn't take this as a black & white but I think it works well as one.

Please feel free to give me feedback on this shot. What you like about it, what you don't like about it, or what I could have done differently.

Photo taken with my Canon EOS Rebel T2i w/ Tamon 18-270mm Lens

I like the placement of the horizon line. I like the open beak of the bid as he takes flight and I like the reflections. In my opinion, which you have already figured out, more room to the right of the bird would have enhanced the shot. However, I am guessing, like you, I would be thrilled to get this one. It sure takes lots of practice.

I really like the B/W treatment here, DK. overall comp is very nice except maybe a hair more on top would be good. I do wish the bird were flying into the frame rather than out the edge.

Lovely shot.

No problem at all for me that the heron is flying out of the frame. Only a little more space underneath the heron's silhouette would have been nice.

Personally I like b/w images, but I am not in favor of major post-processing like changing a color image to b/w.
