Hello everyone. Here is another pic I captured of this wonderful little owl. I really like how you can see the sunrise in its eye. Hope you enjoy. C&C welcomed and encouraged.
Camera - Nikon 300s, Lense - Nikon 200-400 w/1.4 tc, Exposure - 1/200, Aperture - F5.6, ISO - 640, Metering - Spot, Aperture Priority.

Great image, Robert! I love these little guys, and you have a picture that captures their unique character nicely I think. That coupled with the environment shown and implied in the image makes for a nice representation of the species.

I like your choice of composition and depth of field and the eye is INTENSE (and razor sharp)!!!!

Nicely done!

Wonderful eye and pose here!
Love the one-legged stance. Fine detail on the feathers.
I'd suggest a bit of NR on the BG.
Really nice!

Wow! look at that sunrise! Robert, I really like this one, I love how you got the color of the eye with such great light. I think the one eye pose is great. I also love the detail in the feathers and the low perspective. Great job getting down there at the birds level. I also like your choice of the square crop here. I think it helps keep the attention on the bird. I also think the dof is well done.
I can't help wondering how this would have worked with Matrix metering instead of spot in this case. The bg may seem to be a bit bright to me. Wondering if the Matrix metering would have darkened the bg a bit. Otherwise, love it. :toast:

Easy to understand why you're so happy with this one Robert, excellent portrait of an adorable little bird; love the one-legged pose and, of course, the fact that you captured the sunrise in the reflection of it's eye :^)

Robert,

I adore these burrowing owls, they are animated, fun to photograph and very photogenic. The one legged stance you show is great, the sunrise in the eye is too. Normally I don't care much for square format compositions but I think this one works very well with your subject and it feels well blanced IMHO. The one thing I do notice in the larger version that isn't so evident in the small one is noise in the areas of the bill, throat upper chest and wings, careful post processing may reduce that noise and give your image more impact that it already has and I feel it would be well worth the time to rework this file.

That soft light really brings out the eye. Might try a vertical crop as well.
