With colors as beautiful as that, no wonder it's showing off. I really like the colors here Murali. I also love the detail of the feathers. The bird really stands out well with the good depth of field, with nice blured background.
If it were mine, I would crop a little tighter to bring out the bird even more. Otherwise, great shot! :toast:

Murali - this is a beautiful image. The colours are wonderful...the picture jumped off the gallery page for me. I was curious about your use of spot metering (i.e. did you feel this picture required its use, or is that just your prefered technique?).

I was also curious about what the fine silky-looking strands are in the picture below the branch on either side of the bird.

But mostly, I'm just very impressed with a great shot, nicely composed and wonderfully timed with a great look in the bird's eye as well.

Nicely done!

Wonderful colours and detail, and complimentary BG.
Needs a bit of clean-up - the lines/strands below the perch and the 3 blips near the center lower border are a little distracting.
Nice!

Magnificent shot Murali, exactly what I'm aiming to achieve, and to think you made this with a 40D and a 100-400 lens increase my confidence in my own equipment, thanks for sharing :^)

By the way, luckily you have the actual shooting data set as part of your image, as I was going to say that the info you typed regarding the exposure, with your shutter speed set at only 1/250 would, in my experience, have made a shot like this impossible - LOL ;^p

Thanks friends. The strands below are the remains of some Spider Web. I left them as they are and did not clean.

I switched to Spot metering and traditional center point focusing some time back after I missed details on the bird under difficult back-lit conditions. This combination of spot metering and center point focusing gives me the greatest control over exposure and sharpness. The Spot metering ensures that adequate details of the bird would be captured even though the background may get over-exposed at times. I lock my exposure and focus using the center spot and then move the camera to recompose. Sometimes, I may not get a chance to recompose, but the bird will still be well exposed and will be in focus.

Ashley, thanks for noticing my typo. Yes, the speed is 1/1250 and not 1/250 and as you rightly said, at 1/250, I would have made a good blur.

This is one of the 9 images I made in sequence. If any one is interested in seeing the sequence as a flip-card, take a look at my web-page: http://muralisanthanam.com/animation.aspx

Murali,

I love the vibrant, but not over saturated colors you have in this image, the pose and that you left the spider webs in the image, I feel that adds a touch of interest. Beautiful light, details and simplicity. I might crop some of the top off for composition. Would like to have the in my files.

Nice wing stratch and detail. I would crop in more so we can enjoy more of the bird.

A beautiful pose from this bird, and what great colors. The tip of the bill shows some artifact from oversharpening. :toast:
