Lapwing
Who would think that a lapwing would use a pool only a metre across and about three
long.. Got a really nice surprise when this one dropped in. He had a whale of a time bathing and walking about for nearly 5 minutes. When he left I committed the cardinal sin. I started to go through the shots I had just taken - something you should NEVER do in a hide especially ,( as I know only too well from past experiences) you are bound to miss something happening out front. When I looked back through the camera there was a male and female Blackcap bathing side by side and square on to the lens. They had been there a while.
I got one shot. You never learn. !
Good fun though .!
BTW- the big one’s worth a look. Perhaps I don’t need the poorly Bigma after all.

This is the one I got of the Blackcaps - several of which I must have missed !
If the mods are not happy with the two pic post they can take this one off. It is really part of a story though.

I enjoyed your narrative of what I guess we have all experienced at one time or another. I love the lapwing, colors are really nice and had the feeling that I wished you had cropped it close but the large view satisfied that desire just fine. :wavey:

Both are lovely shots John but the Blackcaps are exceptional captured as a pair!
Well done!

John,

If your pools produced a couple of great bustards and an eagle I don't think any of us would be too surprised, given what else they have produced over the years. This is a lovely shot, and perhaps you are right about not needing the Bigma!

the colours and feather detail are excellent in the large Lapwing image John.

Looks like your pools are coming up trumps again!

A beauty of a lapwing - they seem to be doing well in my neck of the woods. Blackcaps are great too - can't believe the stuff you get at that pond.
