This photograph was taken at John and Barbara Gerlachs' fall color workshop in the Michigan Upper Peninsula on October 4, 2010. The area on the right was deep in shadows and had almost no detail. So I combined six images in an HDR using Photomatix.

Nikon D300 and Nikkor AF-S DX 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
f/16.0 at 48.0mm iso200

Comments and critiques welcome.

Fantastic light in this reflection shot Jay! The cold looking fog really seperates the background with some great depth.

Didn't even think HDR when I first saw this. Very pretty scene, nicely handled light.

Jay, the light is wonderful, as well as the composition. The haze separating the background just makes the difference!

Looks like a lovely place to hold a workshop for sure. I love the fog/mist rising off the lake. Overall, a good blend, but the sky looks a little dull.

Very nice Jay. Nice work with the hdr. I didn't think that either when I looked at it. Really like the light and fog. I have photographed at Pete's Lake several times over several years. A wonderful place.

This is a beautiful location. The fall color is fantastic and the mist rising from the lake adds a lot to the image. I'm not sure about the (presumably dead) leaning trees--they kind of detract a little from the composition but not too much (I am being picky here). The blend looks pretty good. My preference would be to darken the shadows a little more to add some contrast to the scene but it may just be my monitor. Overall this is a fine shot!!

I really like the scene, composition, lighting and the colors. Just the sky looks a bit dark and I would lighten it up a bit. Overall I like the capture.
