Gallery: Photo ArtPosted April 23, 2011220 views2 comments
Tried to overcome a busy background by layering a sketched bird over the color original, then using a mask to paint the bird back in.
Original metadata: Canon EOS 40D; 1/160 @ f/16; ISO 500; 400mm; 70-200 2.8L; 2xTC; tripod.

I think that this approach worked really well, Craig. Painting the bird back in with a soft brush allows you to circumvent exacting selection of the bird and it provides a nice colored bg close to the bird. I find that the interesting Photo Art part of this comes in to defining the bg. There are so many options! Also, I found that when I picked an option involving color for the Photo Art, then the bird image/bg art interface blending became quite challenging for me. Although I like this image, I'm not sure it's a good test of overcoming a busy bg because the busy part is all below the bird. So often I struggle with a bird surrounded by branches!
