I was out looking for (unsuccessfully) roe-deers I took some shots to some small birds that were flying before me as if they wanted to guide me somewhere.

I really do not know the specie.

Nikon D2Xs Automatic White Balance Iso 320
AF Nikkor 300mm F/4 + TC 1.7 - 1/1600
compensation +1
distance from subject 9 m

Comments and critiques much appreciated

One of the things I love most about taking Nature's hand and letting Her lead me where She will are the constant surprises She has in store to offer with seemingly each new outing :^)

Although I find the subject a little on the dark side Luca, I love the composition and the slight turn of the head to the rear; a pose that always seems to add to the thought that the subject is concentrating on something in particular, sometimes more so that when the head is in perfect profile, at least that's the way it appears to me ;^)

In the larger version, unless I'm going completely nuts (always a possibility!) I detect a very faint catchlight in the subject's eye. Seeing that there, if this where mine, I think I'd be tapping away on it with the Dodge tool to see how much further I could bring that up.

As to the species, my guess is it's some kind of Flycatcher, though no idea which and I could even be wrong with that ;^)

Luca,
I really like the pose, the comp and the beautiful background colors. As Ashley said, I think the bird is a flycatcher too.
Very nice image. :wavey:

Another thought regarding the species Luca: My guess is this one is a female Flycatcher, based on my experience in the field over here. In SE Asia there are more than 30 different species of Flycatcher, and though most of the males have variations of vivid blue, orange, black and whites in their plumage, nearly all species of female Flycatchers appear in the same drab brown or beige coats (very similar to the one you've posted), which makes them particularly difficult to identify, unless you're lucky enough to spot a male nearby, which of course narrows the choice down some ;^)
