I found this in the Anza Borrego Desert much earlier this month just before doing the Hawkwatch. Perch is natural and the bird chose it. I might have interrupted it chasing that bug!

1D MkIV, 700mm, 1/500 @ f8, ISO1000, overcast 6:30am, car hide, not flashed, MBP laptop processed.

Thanks for looking; comments please.

Cool looking bird. I like the pose, and you choose a nice composition with the curving perch. Great background. Very nice image, KC. :toast:

I like the composition and I like that you left the branch with green leaves in. Sharp focus on the bird, but the bug is a little soft. LOL

Lovely comp and the green on the left helps balance it. I would consider a version with the bug cloned out since it is not sharp. Sharon

How fortunate to have such a cooperative subject choosing to pose for you in just the right way Kwan :^) I love the harmonious colouring throughout the image, the catchlight (small as it is) in the eye, and what appears to fine detail in the feathers.

That said, I'd be sorely tempted to clone out the green leafy part from the LH side, as personally I feel it's more or a distraction than anything else, but I also appreciate that most will agree with your decision to leave it in.

I'm also with Harry inasmuch as I'd like to see a little more sharpening on that bug - LOL ;^p

sweet, KC. I'd be glad just to get this clean a look at one of these, let alone click the shutter on it. I like the lines of the veg and the comp you used. great bird.

This is great KC. That pose really displays the curved bill nicely. Nice perch and very pleasing background. The green limb on the left does draw my attention away from the bird a tad bit.

I'm sure that the bug appreciates your intrusion. Very nice,Kwan. A tough to find bird unless you know where to look. I like the little bit of green branch that you included too. It adds a little color to an otherwise earthtoned composition. :toast:
