Short Eared Owl

I see SEOWs occasionally, but can not get close enough for a photo. I ran into a cooperative one, who posed for me after I stopped the truck on the side of a gravel road.
I like the weathered post, the pose, and the brown grass pasture background. Larger version provided.
Comments and critiques much appreciated.

I love the pose and view of the primaries, the soft bg and great detail. Would love to have taken this. Sharon

Glad you found a co-operative SEOW. They are hard to come by! Nice one!

Absolute cracker of a shot Dan! When I can tear my sight off those mesmerising eyes ;^p I can fully appreciate everything else you've captured so well here; the feather detail, the pose, and the complementary colour of the background that's so wonderfully blurred ... ah, there I go again, back to those eyes! ;^. ;^)

One minor nit, and I could be completely wrong in this assumption, but in the larger version the perch appears to be a little over-sharpened.

Superb detail and a lovely bg, Dan. The texture of the weathered post adds a lot.

Very good detail/DOF, comp, and soft complimentary BG Dan.
I agree, the weathered look and textures of this perch add nicely.
Great catch, well done :toast:

Dan: Looks like you nailed this one. Great image. I always enjoy a beautiful subject against a nice complimentary background and this one exemplifies that. Congrats

Dan, a real beauty here. You nailed the exposure completely and the pose of course ain't too shabby, either.
I'm impressed at what you get out of that lens and tc combo. I had one and never had such results.

Excellent image. Composition, Owl pose and BG are outstanding. My only nit is it looks a little over sharpened.
