Yound BCNH
by Harry Harris
This morning at Bolsa Chica, California I went to see if I could capture some Least Terns when this juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron landed near the bridge I was set up on. He stayed for about a half hour and provided me with some nice shots. I even got a pretty nice flight shot but a bit far off.
Cropped to 60% of full frame.

6 commentsNot sure how much more this would have shown, but in a so-called "virtual" sense, it might have worked a little better to get as much of the water in the frame (if there was any more) allowing for us to see as full a reflection as possible. I find that unless there's exquisitely detailed feathers to show (which, forgive me for saying, isn't all that evident in this particular subject), sometimes cropping less from an image, allowing more of the natural surroundings to be seen, can work more pleasing to the eye.
Nice capture!
very nice pose, orange eye and setting. I agree about a bit more sharpening on the bird.
