Big Meal

I went to Bolsa Chica to continue to try and get Terns in flight. Noticed a grebe coming near the bridge I was on. The water was a little more clear than usual and I saw how fast and agile they are under water. I also saw the fish it was chasing and I then noticed another photographer shooting. So I stopped spectating and caught some images. I love the colors the Horned and Eared Grebes have come into. I started photographing birds last May and this past month is the first time I have seen the change. Wow. My image really does not do justice to the grebe. Wish I could be lower but the bridge and my knees prohibit that.

Cropped to 30% of full frame. I wanted to get as much detail as possible and still keep fairly sharp. Hope it worked.

Comments are appreciated.

Harry, this held up very well to such a large crop! I love the eyes (as I usually do with Grebes), but the breakfast he has in his beak really sends this over the top. I also like how you managed to catch him right in a head turn towards the viewer. My only very small nit is....sort of wish the angle was lower, but not much you could have done about that at the time since you were on a bridge

Great action shot. You did a good job with the sharpness and the light seemed to be in your favor. Nice image

I really like the way you've captured a sense of ongoing motion with this image Harry; aside from the ripples I can just make out the Grebe's webbed feet paddling away just beneath the water's surface, very nice indeed :^)

Very nice Harry! Larger view has some excellent detail and the colors are great too. I like the swirling water and the fish in the beak. :toast:

So you were caught looking instead of shooting? Well you came back and did a great job here. Love that eye and the meal of course. Good capture.
