Super Nova
by Floris van Breugel
Been over a month now since I've gotten out on a trip, feels like forever! I had an important stage in my 'real job' to get through, but now that's done so I hope to get out again soon. In the meantime, I went digging in the archives and finally processed this image to my satisfaction. This is some cave ice light painted with my head lamp in lava beds national monument from back in 2009. Thanks for your thoughts!

18 commentsNice contrast, the light is is well controlled and the black background of "outer space" is what supports the image.
Very Cool Floris
I could see it rotated 90 deg anticlockwise with a sliver shaved off the (new) right hand side.
Looks like an ice ghost escaping.
Stuart - I did think about (and try) a rotated version.. it just always felt a little awkward to me, perhaps because I'm used to seeing it vertically. It was taken looking almost straight down, so really it shouldn't make much of a difference.
Tony - same cave as the one you're thinking of
R.Bill - There were some interesting colors, but in order to get it looking nice I needed to do a lot of contrast manipulations and dodging and burning, when you start to do that, the colors start to look really strange.
Is this a telescope image of the Big Bang?
Seriously, I like it. Cool!
I'm happy to see your work again. This has your signature and while I miss color I also like the lines and the contrast that the B&W bring to the photo.
Very nice indeed.
