Evening light on the white limbs of a lovely desert gum in the MacDonnell Range in Central Australia.
Ebony 5 x 4, craning upwards from the awkwardly placed tripod position!

Simply loved the subtle warm light on the tree here. The beautiful curving branches add a lot of aesthetic value to the frame.
Beautiful ! Only wish that the lower left segment was also filled with spread out branches/leaves like the rest of the frame. But well, we have to take what nature presents to us.

Interesting perspective and wonderful pink hues in the trunk. I also like the way the gnarled branches fill in the frame.

When I saw the thumbnail, I had a feelign this was a LF shot. The color and tones here are wonderful. Also, good job getting a technically sharp photo with a difficult subject due to the foreground/background relationship.

Although I do enjoy the pastels in this photo, it might also be a good candidate for B&W because of the light quality on the trunk, and the light vs. dark tones that are present.

Wow - really great color - and the effect of the tree shapes and perspective is really powerful. Good job not getting your ebony toppled over! :toast:

Lovely Rob. Im really surprised this doesn't have more looks and comments. Awesome viewpoint and starkness of the Gum works well with the twilight glow.
Nice work

Simply amazing! Major kudos for finding this unique perspect and coming up with such a great composition. To me, the trunk leads the eye perfectly. And there's a symetry in the curvy branchs that seems to divide the frame evenly. I love the soft colors too. :toast:

Fascinating use of a rectangular frame, Rob, and I like how the lighting holds me inside. What a gorgeous tree. Neat how the branches curve and bend.

Exquisite image, Rob. The design of your composition, with the branches and tree trunk against that sky with the kiss of light, is phenomenal. Getting that Ebony in place had to be a real challenge in making this image but well worth it. Gorgeous work.

Many thanks for all comments. I did have a little play with B& W conversion, but found too many options! Also, I think that evening mauve characterises the image.

These ghost gums are trees of the desert, frequently sinuous like this fine one. This is actually just a little way from the much visited Largest Ghost Gum, which I went to photograph. But I found that I just couldn't do a thing with the famous tree and this smaller one, quietly growing just over the ridge, was far more interesting. Discovered late, of course, and so a not unfamiliar scramble with the tripod!

I really like this as is - great shot. I would also love to see this same comp under the stars. Just something to consider if you can return.

This is a great, artistic interpretation of the tree! Not much to critique, though It might be just a tad too purple for my tastes.
