Yellow-Crowned Night Heron

I just love these guys - they look like little old grumpy, unshaven men.

I can see why you enjoy them -- lots of personality. Great shot.

Nice to see so much in the open. I like the raised foot. A bit mre DOF would have helped with the beak. Looks a little on the bright side.

your description of these birds makes me laugh.
You got a great expression and I really like the pose with the raised leg. Very nice comp. :toast:

Sandy, Was your description of old, grumpy, unshaven men developed after you met me? lol. Nice to see this bird in the open and I love the cheeks.

These are cool birds Sandy. I like the setting and the bird's position. In the larger version the head and beak look just a bit blurred. I might bring down the mid-tones a bit if this were mine.

Cool, Sandy. I don't think I've ever seen one posted in this kind of pose. It does look awfully grumpy.

Sandy:
Just took a look in the mirror. There is a resemblance. I would play with this one to try to get more contrast between the water and the bird.

Great photo. I'm coming late to this but must repeat that the raised leg adds so much pizazz. I too feel it slightly bright but love the shot alot.

The darker version has more contrast and pops a little. Now I am going to shave....
