Nice side view; good size in frame; decent setting. It would help if the shadow wasn't on the head.

Beautiful bird, Charlie. Very nice pose in a natural setting. Too bad for the shadow on the head but you got a good catchlight.

A nice bird Charlie. I like the dappled lighting. I also like the perch plant vege and the BG. In the larger version the fine detail is lacking a bit in the bird's feathers, maybe off just a bit on your manual focus, or a bit of a larger crop?

Yes, Richard and Monica, I felt the shadow was my greatest problem here too. I lightened it a little but any more and I didn't like the washed out look so went with this..

Ron, for a long time I've been relying on auto focus because of deminishing eyesight and recently (since the sun came out) I have more and more tried manual focus. I'm not sure I'm doing as well as auto. This is a significant crop to approx 50% of original.

Thanks all for comments.

Nice, Charlie. I like the dappled shade and you still managed a good catchlight.

I like this environmental portrait. You got the catchlight and the wonderful crispness of the bird. Way to go.

Looks a little like a towhee I've been chasing! I like the light and framing with the leaves. Sharon

Very nice job Charlie! I like the pose, eye contact and the perch. Maybe just slightly centered, but not by much. Excellent! :toast:
