Back to costa rica

This one was fairly small, maybe a foot long. They dont grow very big in general. He was perched 10 feet off the ground and in the dark. I fired the in camera flash hoping to get some details on the snake. By doing so, i think i lost the dark feel of the forest

La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica
Nikon d5000, 70-300 @ 300mm, f8, 1/60, iso 400, -.7 ev

Thanks for looking :wavey:

Anand, to me in this case seeing the snake clearly is worth losing the dark feel. I think this is a really nice image showing a lot about this snake.

Good detail on the snake Anand and I like the curls and the smooth green BG. To get a bit of the dark forest feel back you could selectively darken the BG and branches.

Was this a wild (free roaming) snake?

Thanks for the compliment Barbara !

@ Vincent, it is indeed wild. Here is a "first contact" high iso snap i took to document it, just in case it slithers away sensing me. That should give you an idea of where he was perched. I did darken the background a little. They are good at staying still. In hind sight i should have experimented more without the flash on a tripod.

Lucky you. I didn't see a single snake at La Selva, and the eyelash vipers I saw on the Caribbean side were dull browns and greens. It's a tough environment, and I think you did well nailing some detail in the face from that angle.
