Tiger Family Outing

This is an image of a Bandhavgarh tigress, locally known as Jhurjhura for a landmark in her territory. At the time of this photo, her cubs were about three months old.

It was early morning -- 6 AM and this was the first time Jhurhhura had brought the cubs to this open grassland. They remained at the water hole for just a brief time, as the cubs were not yet accustomed to the jeeps. I had a total of 30 seconds to grab a few shots before they moved off.

D300 200-400mm @ f/4.8 SS 1/125 ISO 400 Handheld

C&C appreciated.

Thank you,

Butch Lama

A special moment to witness. Appears a little soft, but the occasion more than makes up for it. Compositionally, would have preferred a tiny little less at the top and a little more at the bottom.

Beautiful image Butch. I like it that there is eye contact with all 3 front ones and the different expressions captured. This would have been even better if the entire reflection were included though. as is I might crop more off the bottom. :toast:

Tiger cubs are the most endearing images one can ever take IMHO, and perhaps 'cuteness' needs to be re written with Tiger in front. sorry just biasis.

I like the image, especially as it is taken whilst a the drinking hole, good timing with Mum (Mon) in mid lap, drinking. To move the whole crop down to include the reflect would have been good, but it is the overall 'pink' cast that I find more distracting, irrespective of the time of day, plus I might have upped the ISO to have given yourself a slightly better SS, especially being HH.

Butch was this taken on the LHS as you enter the park or further in?

Harshad, thought you were traveling. :wavey:

Hope to see more Tiger postings Butch.

I like how the colors blend so well with the subtle oranges and browns. The expressions are terrific and mom's tongue is a nice addition.

What a thrilling moment to have seen this. I like the pose of the tigers, mom drinking, one youngster growling, one looking things over and the other staying in the background like it is not sure what is going on. Nice job in getting this, way to go.

Nice work handholding that big boy at 1/125 for four animals. I like that the cubs add so many more stripes to the image, it seems to yell, "world full of tigers".
Wouldn't mind seeing it a bit darker though, might make it pop at bit more.

Butch the moment here is fabulous to say the least!! For that alone I wish it was mine.

That being said, I think you could really have "trusted" your D300 beyond ISO-400 for this to give you enough shutter speed to ensure this was critically sharp... :frown: (the what ifs that haunt our photographic memories, eh?)

Great moment captured Butch. A bit higher ISO to increase DoF speed would have done it for me. Great moment to be a part of though. Well done.
