A really good first post. Welcome to NPN!

Fighting or courting? The color and detail are superb. I like the unusual angle. The perch is what it is. The comp feels unbalanced to the right. More room, if you have it on the right, would add to this.

It would be helpful if you could post your techs.

Hi Joanna - a spectacular action capture - welcome to UKNPN.

There's only one 'nit' for me and that is, it's slightly too big in the frame.

I can see you've cropped it - a full uncropped version would be helpful.

Agree with Andy ( which I hate btw ) about being too big in the frame. But I really like it and welcome to this great network.

Beautiful color rendition! Curious- did you image them with film (or) digital? Personally, I LIKE them big in the frame; think it is a plus for this particular image. And..the tight dof is very appropriate to this composition.

They're taken with digital - i'm only 32, and only got into photography about 3 yrs ago (didnt event know what an SLR was before that!)

They're taken with a Canon 1D mark iv, and a 500mm lens.

Thanks for all your comments - can't decide which image to show next ! - 2 more kingfishers with locked beaks, or a harvest mouse!

:wavey: thanks for making me feel welcome :toast:

Hi Jo,

I missed this one earlier as I have been out of the country until about an hour ago.

Welcome to the forum. I agree with the comments and critique already offered regarding size in the frame and being a bit tight on the RHS.

Looking forward to more.

Cheers
