I am trying to imitate Harold Davis work on high key image. This is a blend of 5 images shot with increasing exposure to almost total white out. This brightest image is placed at the bottom and successively less exposed one layered on top and painted in to get this transparent pattern.

D90 50mm F11 1/4 to 20 sec exposure. Thanks for looking and C&C appreciated.
Bill/Pat - pls move to phhotoart if you consider it more appropriate there

This is superb Gary. I'll look at Davis' work. Love the energy, the mood and the colors.

For the first that I've seen of you trying this style it is excellent. I've got a couple of images to try this technique but you're on top of it Gary. Great job.

Delicate feel to this high-key processing. Personally I would like to see a bit more color saturation. I do not know Harold Davis' work, but will check it out when I get some free time. Like the results here though. :wavey:

Sweet image. I love the high key look, comp, and subject. I do find the electric green overpowering the pastel blues and grabbing my eye. This is not a criticism, just an observation.

I think you did an excellent job, here, Gary! Could you have picked a more complex flower?!!

This is great Gary! I looked at some of Davis's work after your last post, and from what i can tell you're well on your way.
Well executed.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Really appreciate them.

Anne:
I did not choose this flower, rather is was chosen for me. This is one of the flowers I was given to work with in my Ikebana class and so I took advantage. The petals are delicate and seem like a good candidate for this treatment.

I am not entire happy with this yet and I think I still have a way to go before I get the level of energy and vitality seen in Davis's images. There are many variables in the processing making them difficult to control but on the other hand these provide many opportunities for experimentation. I noticed many have commented about the color and saturation here and they are clearly different for normally exposed images and probably attracted me to try this in the first place.

Gary: Since this is primarily a blend and not some severe digital manipulation I think it fits fine here. An interesting take on a flower that can be tough to shoot. Great concept, great execution.>=))>

Gary, I too love the transparencies of Harold Davis. The Agapanthus seems to be a good model for this type of photos. I like the low saturation of the flowers. What do you think about doing the same thing with the stem?.
Take care.
