I was shooting some rock formations in Arizona when I came upon This lovely lily growing in the sand. All comments are welcome and appreciated.

Beautiful bloom. I've never had the pleasure of seeing a Sego lily. The background lighting here is really a challenge especially on the right side. If you have the NIK filters, I would suggest using the darken edges slider to tone the background down. If you don't it would take alot of work with the burn/dodge tool.

The bloom is beautiful Richard. I agree with Patricia about darkening the bg some and with the approach. Excellent composition and a fine capture.

Perfect DOF and all structures. I like very much the overall arrangement, only the bright spots in BG are disturbing. The flower is perfect and well placed within the frame. Nicel done Richard.

Richard:
The center of this flower is really striking!! Fabulous capture considering the very harsh light on the right. I agree with Pat's suggestion on darkening the bright bg. Another tool you could try is Viveza from NIKS which you could download a trial version.

Richard: This is a wonderful capture of the main flower. The BG is a major negative for me. I'm not sure if there is any simple processing fix for it. Since the lily is in the shade I would have looked for a way to shade the BG as well, even by as simple a method of casting your own shadow over them. I would be tempted on this particular capture to crop severely and just include the lily center. >=))>

Here are two reposts after the comments made. I would appreciate very much more input as to whether either one works. Thanks for taking time to look.

Nice job with the flower; as per other comments the BG doesn't help. Your first repost is better...but the 2nd really changes things. Becomes a much more abstract study and a stronger image. But, the noise level comes into play; starting with ISO-400 then zooming in. Still, I prefer the last version. BTW, I use this same lens for much of my shooting.
