This was shot in Negro Bill Canyon along the Colorado River not to far outside of Moab, Utah. The colors in the canyon walls were great and the hike was great. All comments are welcome and appreciated.

Richard, I think more isolation would work wonders here. The area right around that prominent tree in the middle-right looks perfect for a composition. Simplicity first! This gives some sense of scale/place but it's not as graphically powerful as an abstract crop around that tree IMO.

The scenery if defintely something amazing, but it seems to me that there's too many things in the bottom part. Maybe just moving somehow to include only the small tree above the rocks slightly to the right, would have been perfect.

Richard, I definitely think the repost is an improvement. My initial impression before seeing the repost and Marc's comment was that I like the way that the middle-ground tree is juxtaposed in terms of scale against the massive canyon wall; however, I felt the tree on the left hand side of the frame interrupted the flow of the composition and I wondered how it would look as a vertical crop. The repost emphasizes this juxtaposition and is a stronger composition in my opinion. Thanks for sharing. :wavey:

Richard,

Agree with Marc and also agree that the repost pretty much nails it considering I'm assuming you cropped from this original. I think this comp and perspective could have worked had there been a slightly better arrangement of foreground "stuff." Of course you certainly may have been limited in your options and focal lengths so this just may have been your best option.

The cropped version works just as well if not better giving a sense of scale and grandeur.

the second version does seem the stronger image. The light on these rocks is wonderful. Must have been special to be there

Nice shot, I like the repost because there is so much to look at just in the lines and texture of the rock wall. :toast:
