Snow Lotus

by Patricia Brundage

This peony is called Snow Lotus. Was pleasantly surprised to have six blooms on a new planting from last fall. Unfortunately the rainy weather has ruined the quality of bloom and shortened the length of time they stay around. Taken with Canon 7D using 100-400 IS lens.

Comments are always appreciated.

Just beautiful - this looks like a fine art plate in a botany referecne book.
Perfect DOF and great contrsting colours.
The green leaves against the green BG are just lovely.

Beautiful bloom Pat but it's the leaves that I find most interesting and appealing in this image. If I imagine them gone and the bloom left against the soft green bg I still have a strong image but nothing anywhere near as interesting to me. Thanks to your dof decision and focus control they add depth and a strong accompanying pattern to the main bloom. The bloom may be the star but I'd argue it's the leaves that make it so impressive. Exceptional image and photography for my tastes. Love the mood as well.

Very artistic presentation. I like the the BG, the framing leaves, the water drops, etc. Really fine image.

Very beautiful image, Patricia ! The flower is perfectly rendered, but I especially like the varying depths, tones and rhythms of the leaves - which seem to me scarcely background, rather a vital element of the composition.

Wow...! I love the flower with all it's color surrounded by the soft green BG with just enough leaves and details as to not detract.
The bloom may not be in prime condition, but one hardly notices!

I really love the damask feeling of the bg with the monotone green and differing textures. It really makes the flower stand out even more! Great focus and a wonderful comp!
I know what you mean about the rain! I was so excited about my irises until they were beaten down :frown:

Simply Gorgeous Patricia. I knew it was yours before I even opened it up to look at the photographer.
