winter whitetails

Found this small herd in Funks Grove in Central Illinois. I like the scene as it is almost a mono image, just the white of the snow, tan of the deer and tree trunks. There are 7 deer in this photo, some are only ears!

Canon T1i
1/250 @ F 5.6 ISO 200
Canon 55-250 lens @ 165mm.

Neat capture. I had trouble finding # 7, but did so, finally. I like the alert poses. Good work focusing on the whitetails through the trees.

Beautiful scene ! Love the two colour scheme ! I would crop a little from the right, up to the start of the second tree. Another round of sharpening applied to the deer might make them pop !

I too can't find #7 -where's waldo? The image seems a bit dark on my monitor. Maybe a little levels adjustment? Nice image.

Starting from the deer at 3: 00, # 2 is behind the tree, #3 is the deer in the center, #4 is right over #3s rump, #5 is next in line looking right into the camera, #6 is looking between the two trees, right behind the rump of # 5. #7 is the last deer in line. You need to look closely to see one ear sticking out from behind the tree.

John, I had fun with this photo. Nice environmental shot and it does make a nice game to ask about how many deer. A big clue is what looks to be several very long deer which of course leads to further inspection and finding there are really 2 animals. Thanks for posting.

I love the letterbox crop creating the impression that you're extremely well concealed in some hide and the only thing that caught the attention of the heard was the feint rustling sound of you opening a bag of chips - LOL ;^)

Seriously John, I like this image a lot :^) I also agree that lightening it up a bit and adding a touch (more?) sharpening might enhance this picture even more.

I like the element of camouflaged deer as part of the background, but wish one of the near deer could have been fully visible. It was fun to count ears to find the individuals.
