Hello,

This is the first image processed from a recent Adamus photo tour (which surpassed my expectations). I am posting 2 versions and would love any recommendation on which one works better. The first post is a double processed Raw and the foreground and sky are from the same capture. The second one is a sky with a longer exposure for the sky blended with the same foreground.

As always your comment and criticisms are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Canon 5D Mark II, 16-35 L

And Here is the version with the sky at 30 sec exposure with a 4 stop neutral density filter. Both images shot at F16.

Thank you,

I think i prefer the top version--but there are some odd processing artifacts in the blurred sky that might be influencing my opinion. There are some pretty noticeable haloes in both versions around the stack that need cleaning up. Comp-wise, i find the fg rock a bit too dominant here, but i do like the surf lines leading to the stack. Not sure why the distant trees/rock are blurry in the second version. Cool subject tho. :wavey:

Just an excellent comp with no merging lines. Way to position the elements in the comp! I like the first version a little more myself. And Stan is dead on with his comments on the haloes. I do like this as a conversion too.

Shaun, this looks great except those halos, and I'd be happy to show you how to fix that quickly. I sure wish that moon had been over this stack instead! The water texture is terrific and moves the eye around the scene effortlessly. I have a slight preference towards the more surreal blur of clouds.

Great foreground water motion, which I find works better when combined with the non-blurred clouds of your first version. No suggestions to add beyond what's already been given.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for the valuable feedback. I tried to fix the halos. Marc, I may still need to take you up a on quick tutorial on how to best take care of these.

I think the comp. is interesting. The B&W image makes the surf lines a little the harsh for me. I also think Stan had some good comments.

I prefer the original post with the detail in the clouds. I think you have a very strong foreground and I like the curvature of the water around the foreground rock. The B&W works really well here--I wonder if you could pull out a touch more contrast from the clouds to add some more drama.

Nice work. I prefer the first version. Very dynamic. Funny how next to Marc's image there's a certain symmetry to the way they look on NPN.

Hi Shaun.

All the components of this image are fantastic. Excellent image. :toast:

With the haloing corrected and any indications of dodging I think this is would be over the top! Looks like your tour must have been successful!

Hi Shaun - There is so much to like in this image - the perfect wave action, the great clouds, and the silvery/metallic look of the processing. I agree with Mark M's comments about fixing up a few processing things, but otherwise really love this image. I like the original sky best.
