I shot this image of a juvenile Bateleur as it came in to land at a waterhole in the Kalahari. I like the light under the wings as it was reflected off the very dry and bright sand.

Camera Model Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
Shooting Mode Shutter-Priority AE
Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/6400
Av( Aperture Value ) 4.0
Metering Mode Evaluative Metering
ISO Speed 320
Lens EF500mm f/4L IS USM
Focal Length 500.0mm

Crits welcomed.

The quality of this shot...filling the frame, sharpness, eye, and captured moment...excellent. Like the ground level pov.

Like the wing spread and the look on his face, great feather detail under the wing.

I like this a lot. Aside from the great techs employed here, the left wing outstretched farther than the right adds an immediate sense of action.

Excellent exposure and a perfect wingspread Neal :^) No mistaking this one for being a juvenile, which lends well to making this a real cute image too, I love the way it's head is angled in your direct and that it's eye seems dead set on you as if it's trying to figure out your next move ;^)

Very nice shot and one you should feel proud to have in your collection, can hardly wait to see more :^)

Impressive wingspan and underwing detail, and well done getting the eye crystal clear. I think I can see a bit of chroma noise here and there (e.g. around the outer secondaries at left), but that's easily dealt with.

This is a terrific image Neal. On my screen the sharpness of the eye just pops out. :toast:
