Black-Chinned Male

Greetings everyone:

I was out in the backyard this morning working on more hummingbird shots. This is a male Black-Chinned hummer. I was pleased with the with position, detail and the pollen on the beak was a added bonus. Very small crop.

Multi-flash, 3 on the hummer, one on the background.

Canon 50D, 100-400 @ 300mm

Larger version included for a more detailed view.

Thanks for your thoughts.

keith, I've seen very few hummer images on this forum that inspire me - this one does. Beautiful capture in a gorgeous setting, well done.

A brilliant shot Keith - superb detail, color, background. The flowers also magnificent, so much a part of hummingbird shots. I hope to one day get a shot like this.

Classic shot, brilliantly executed. Very impressive Keith :^)

Be interested to know what you're shutter speed was ;^)

The actual shutter speed was 1/200. That really doesn't matter much in this shot as the entire lighting for the image was with the flashes. If the flashes were off, this would have been a black frame. The challenge is getting the lighting right so that it does not look like a flash image. The flash duration with the way I had my flashes configured was about 1/15000. Hope that helps.

Very sharp and the flowers add a nice splash of color.

Interesting to read your response on shutter speed. This is one of the first images I have seen where use of the flash is not really evident on the image itself, so well done in that regard, excellent use of reflectors and flash. Wonderful overall scene with flower placement, hummers are so cool, very well done Keith.
