The Smoky Valley Ranch, in western Kansas, is owned by The Nature Conservancy. Chalk badlands like these are common in this part of Kansas. The storm clouds cleared just after sunrise last weekend, creating this scene. 7D, ISO 400, f/8, 1/500, minimal crop

the clouds look ominous and contrast nicely with the placid cows and the evening sun on the hills. A more vertical crop would probably emphasize that contrast. This is really sweet light.

The lighting here is terrific with the early morning sun, the storm clouds, and the hint of rainbow. I think that cropping both from the top (maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of the sky) and from the left (leaving the dark calf in) would make for a stronger image. Yes, that leaves out the best of the rainbow, but for me it emphasizes those beautiful badlands, which I would love to roam.
