Sonoma Coast Spring

A recent shot of some lupines, a bit of iceplant, other flowers, and sea stacks located near Jenner along California’s north coast. I’ve also included a larger version . . . both suffer a bit from compression, but not too much I believe. Thanks for any comments or critiques!

Nice flowers leading into the rugged coastline. I might prefer a bottom crop to further accentuate the lupine, maybe to just below the yellow flowers on the right? Nice coastal scene.

Hi Phil - I like the subtle light in this image a lot. The flowers in the foreground add a lot of interest and I like the curve of the coastline. Nice work!

Large version was worth a look. The flowers feel like an area of warm gems next to the cools ocean.

Very nicely done; wreaks of Sonoma north coast. I can almost smell the air.

Really captures the late spring/early summer mood on the Norcal coast Phil. Very natural look and feel to this one.

Great shot, Phil. What an amazing foreground - I love the plethora of flowers there. The s-curve created by the foreground rock and the ones in the water is well seen and used.

Phil,

This makes me want to get out the to coast! This is a lovely and well crafted coastal image. The variety of color in the foreground really adds to the flavor here.

A very minor and nitpicky suggestion. If it were mine, I would paint in some contrast just below the horizon in the middle where I'm guessing the sea spray is fogging (for lack of a better word) things a little. Not sure if that makes sense.... I did say it was very minor.

Thanks for the feedback so far! Lon, I know just what you mean. I'd worked that area over already in just the way you suggest . . . perhaps it's worth pushing the contrast a bit more right there.

Phil, your plain composition lets me exlpore and enjoy all the beautiful details in the near and leads me into the depth. Light conditions reflect the atmosphere well to me, Ifeel like standing in the middle of the scene.

I'd love to see the blush of purple filling the foreground. I suppose that was easier said than done at the time, and this result certainly has a quiet beauty about it.

I agree with Kent; a little closer to one of those purple plants would have been optimal if possible, but still very nice. As noted, a great photo for the eye to wader in.

Good job here. I'd say this is a hard area to make a nice clean and coherant comp, but you did well with this. It's a beautiful cliff side witrh lots of nice elements to look at, but not necessarily something that can come together in a photograph. That's what I conclude when I'm there looking at it in person. So, congratulations on pulling it off. It's amazing to me that there are no cluttered, or visually unappealling spots in the comp!
