bluff shelter waterfall

This is an iconic location in the Ozarks known as Pam's Grotto.

I shot for a couple of hours under this bluff shelter as several thunderstorms blew over. It was often so dark that exposures were in the 30-second range with an almost wide open lens.

Love the framing and the misty backdrop Randy!

I like the framing as well and I'm good with losing all detail in the blacks around the bluff opening. I would bring down the brightness on the trees a little bit and open up the shadows to the right of the waterfall. Tough shot pretty well executed.

Nice shot. I will say with the strong vertical edge of the rock an the tree behind it, I almost thought I was looking at a split stereo-style image.

Very nice, Randy. The second version with the opened shadows to the right of the waterfall really works. It looks like a good place to weather some storms :).

The framing works very nicely here. Could maybe see cropping a bit of the foreground gravel to focus more on the light outside.

Really good image. I don't think it could get any better from this perspective and location. :toast:

Randy,

I think this is about as good as one could get considering the range of light present. The last repost pretty much takes care of the suggestions I was going to make (they've already been made.) So thanks for trying to incorporate those suggestions. The darkness works well for framing, but I'm glad you brought in a little more detail, at least surrounding the falls since that's where much of the attention is. Nice job with this.

That vertical line in the center is disorienting. Maybe that was a goal, but I find it unsettling. The misty forest is great. Did you try other compositions with more of the green & mist as background?
