Raw file processed in Photoshop Elements 9, noise removal, sharpening, midtone contrast and contrast boosts, brightening, full frame

Please note that I processed this image on my laptop's glossy monitor because I am away from home for 3 weeks, and what I see is almost certainly not what you see. I can reprocess at home if appropriate.

Walking down the path I first saw the morning light on the two foreground trees and then saw the light on the background trees. I can't tell on this laptop whether this is too bright to show that this is morning light or whether it's too dark, and I can't tell if my contrast changes are sufficient. But showing the morning light on these trees was my intent for this image. I like and left the partial trees on the left and right because it seems to me that they promote a feeling of depth.

So, with all that in mind, all feedback on this image and suggestions for reprocessing or further processing would be greatly appreciated. My goals are to convey the look and feel of the morning light and to promote a sense of depth in the image. Thank you!

Beautiful and subtle light on the tree trunks Barbara. It might need a bit more sharpinging for web presentation but that is a minor detail. Beautiful forest scene.

Barabara,

The soft light is very nice, and you handled it well. This is one of your nicest shots. I agree it could be a tad sharper, but don't oversharpen it; the pastel quality would be lost.

I do have a couple of suggestions. First, the tree in the background between the two foreground trunks has a bright area that draws my eye. You migh consider carefully burning it down a bit. Second, you might consider cloning the small stick and the little plant stalks in the LRC.

Barbara,

In terms of beautiful lighting, I think this is your best capture to date. It's gotta be pretty obvious what a difference this light makes vs. the direct open light of mid day or just bright front lighting. Of course we can't control the light and every place has it's own characteristics of light, but I think this one here is just wonderful. The dappled light is beautiful. The color is excellent (with a comment in a minute,) and Ithink the composition is excellent. The big trees in the middle make for a great focal point, create a strong vertical AND diagonal. The other trees and forest make for a wonderful supporting cast. I really like this and is now up there with one of my favorites of yours.

I mentioned some color. If it were mine, I would take a saturation layer or saturation adjustment and pull way back on the magenta. It's subtle in the center area of the image, but more prominent towards the top. I think little reduction in that, magenta, and even desaturating the blue would bring the colors in tune a little better. at least to my eye. Minor tweaks.

I think this is a fine image Barbara. Well done.

Barbara, I appreciate your plain and clear composition, which aptly supports the subdued lighting. I also like the colors that reflect the atmosphere of this morning well to me.

Barbara, I enjoy the light here too and think you did a nice job with this. I would like to walk right in to these woods with this nice morning light. I think the suggestions Preston and Lon made would make this even nicer. I also think this is one of your best! Nice work.

Nice shot Barbara. Your landscapes are coming along nicely, you're letting the light work for you instead of vice versa. I think Eva, Preston & Lon made some excellent observations and suggestions. Other than those, I would leave as is..

Beautiful light with the soft feel of the bark textures.. I also like the compositional use of lines, the "V" in the center, which is incidentally matched by the V in grasses. Would clone tiny sticks in lower right, distracting.

Well done, I like how you can look into the BG and still see detail and color. I agree this is one of your best landscapes. Thanks for sharing.
