A spectacular trillium bloom, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan, taken during a circle tour of Lake Superior in May. Eastern flowers can't compete with the ridiculous flower displays out West, this is about as good as it gets this side of the Mississippi. More info about the making of this image can be found in my photoblog article titled Don’t Wear “Pre-Visualization Blinders”.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Beautiful. I really enjoy looking at this. Wonderful just with the flowers, but with this background it is even better. Nice work!

Wow, that's quite a patch of Trillium! The warmer tones in the bg are a nice contrast. I love the comp and the dof is key to showing off the depth.

Ian,

What a glorious display of trillium. Classic, but outstanding composition giving a good proportion of flowers and bg trees.

Not a fault or a nitpick, but the edges of the leaves are quite "edgy" - almost like when you have a final jpg open in PS at only 67% of the full view - it kinda has that over-sharpened look which of course goes away when you view at 100%? Anyway, I know this is not over sharpened and what we're looking at is natural, so I'm not really sure where I was going with this... never mind. It's a beautiful image.

So true, but the way about pre-visualization. Actually, not so much pre-visualization, but being focus on one goal that you tend to lose sight of what else surrounds you. I think we all fall in to that at one point or another - and often more than once. ;-)

Ian, I think it was a rather difficult lighting, and you handled it extremely well in my opinion. A beautiful presentation of the scene to me, I like how you show the energy of this bright spring day.

Very nice, Ian! We don't have any sort of wild flower blooms here. You're lucky to have this!

Ian, I sure hope you know how much I always admire your imagery. This is no exception here! I've never seen a photo of this place before and the way you've captured and processed it is truly beautiful.

Really lovely back-lighting in those petals...the image sings. It was refreshing seeing flowers in a different than soft light conditions. The glowing forest in the background also adds a ton of ambiance here. Magical forest indeed...well done!
