Taken at a lake when I went to visit my family in Kentucky. This lake was over loaded whith carp but they are a big atraction when they are fed. They crawl over each other to get what food (dog food mostly) is thrown in.

Canon 7D, ef70-200L IS II @ 88mm, 1/125sec, AP, f/3.5, iso200

C&C welcome.

Dave

That certainly is a freeding frenzy - I assume these fish are non-native invasives? They are certainly a problematic species

Like how you got some eye contact with some of the fish. Great behavior image.

Although I have no idea as to the name of species, there's several places I've been to here in Thailand where I've seen this frenzied behavior with fish practically jump out of the water and over other to grab bits and pieces of food thrown their way, it's really quite a sight to see.

I like the way you've captured this action Dave, as well as the eye in the central one and the exposure that really brings up the colours and marking, well done and thanks for sharing this unusual image :^)

Hi David,

Quite the organized chaos there! You did a good job in catching the eyes of a few of the subjects in the central portion of the "mass", which I think makes the image somewhat more appealing. That orange "object" catches my eye - can't tell what it is (even in the large version)...but it did distract me a little.

Have to "play the cop" a little here - although I'm pretty certain you had no knowledge of this, this image does step over the image posting guidelines for the Wildlife Gallery (viewable here: http://www.naturephotographers.net/postguide-2.html), specifically the guideline which states " Photos of baited wildlife are prohibited" (I interpret that these guys being fed as baiting).

Cheers...

Brad
