Olympus E5, 150mm, 2xTC, f6.3, 1/800, ISO100 handheld out window

Had a fantastic morning today - even home by 9AM. Saw about a dozen adult SEO's and most posed for me. One even flew about 8 posts ahead of me every time I was finished shooting and started to move the vehicle forward. I stopped again and he posed and flew ahead 3 times to wait for me again....amazing. Lots of hawks around, too, but the icing on the cake was a pair of juvie SEO's along the road. Didn't even see them in the shadows of the long grass on the dirt road's edge until they flew up. I thought I had lost my longtime goal of finding juvies - have never seen one before, or even seen a photo of one. However, they each flew to a fence post on opposite sides of the road, and this guy was on the correct lighting side. They are really dark in color with a very black face - almost full size, though. I stayed for 20 minutes getting shots of both of them before driving off to get shots of a Burrowing Owl I found the day before - he cooperated, too. I drove back along this same route on the way home, and they were still on posts in the same area. I am going out again in the morning to try again before they go somewhere else. I got an amazing amount of different shots....some very cool....so will post a couple along the way.

Dave, really a neat bird, showing off the darks of the juvenile. IQ looks very good and I love that background. We've had more of this species this year than is usual so it must be a prolific year for them. Recently we had several of these barely fledged youngsters on the ground, spread out over several acres, with the parents bringing in food to them but the juvies never got on elevated perches like this so we never got any decent shots of them. Very nicely done.

Good story and excellent image to go along, sounds like quite a morning. Interesting to see how dark the juveniles are and their flowing feathers, way to go. :toast:
