Sorry I haven't been commenting for awhile. Been busy with life, etc. etc. and have had limited time for shooting. This was taken just a few minutes from home and, to me, typifies the prairie of eastern Montana.

Canon 5D2. 16-35mm. f/22. ISO 800. 3 exposure blend. I kept the ISO high to minimize movement of the fg grasses in the breeze. C&C appreciated. See LARGER VERSION for best detail.

I really like the depth and openness of this image. I get the feeling of the wide open prairies. Fine image.

Yeah, I just got back to participating recently, too. Sometimes life can be a pain!
A wonderful image of a great expanse. Excellent use of light here, Doug! The comp is very well done and the "Godbeams" help make this anything but ordinary. The only tiny nit I can see would maybe to burn or clone out the brighter intruders in the brc and the left bottom edge, but that is really being picky.

What really makes the image rise above are the god beams illuminating the intermediate clouds. Cool...

Doug, this is just beautiful. The golden light is perfect for this scene. The grasses are also quite interesting in terms of their shape and texture. The clouds with the beams top it off. I really love this image and find it to be quite compelling.

Great subject, some nice light too! The back-lighting seems to disappear towards the horizon on the grasses--not sure if that's the blend or some odd natural reason--but might want to check the single exposure. You could probably safely brighten the sky some here if need be. :wavey:

I am amazed at how sharp you got the FG grass here. Great texture. With any kind of grass I am always struggling with the wind. I think brightening the sky at the very top would be a little better balanced.

Doug, I like your plain and consistent composition, the subdued light works really well. The delicate details of the grasses in the near really bring the image to life for me.

Yes, the larger image really conveys the vastness and sense of wild freedom that I associate with the prairies (not that I have ever been thee) Really sweet light, Doug.

One of the best prairie shots I've seen in a while, nice job Doug. Congrats on your image in the latest issue of Montana Outdoors as well! :toast:

Nice. Wonderful detail and light. The warmth in the grass and sky makes it a somewhat soothing image.

I like this a lot - how vast the landscape looks despite being presented on my puny screen. Wonderful golden hour light.

That's a beautiful field, Doug. Must be great being so close to home. Love the golden light on the grasses and the highlighted clouds at the top. Lovely warmth.
