Sharpness is really good, especially for f/22. Super DOF to get the face, legs and wings in focus from this angle.

(The light marks on the stigma are interesting. Never saw that before in photos of the cardinal meadowhawk -- a more usual common name for Sympetrum illotum.)

Wayne my ID could very well be incorrect. I try to match what I've photographed with my field guide and often there are differences. If you have a feeling this is not the correct ID, I'd like to know I have no ego in my tries at identification.

Thanks for comments.

Excellent DOF and technique to get it this sharp @ 1/20th Charlie.
Stands out nicely in your frame, great head-on POV :toast:

Not questioning the ID, Charlie, just commenting on the stigma coloration. (I don't think we even have these in the east, and I never heard that common name for it before, so it' your call.) I was actually wondering if it's a freshly-emerged (teneral) adult. The colors of those are often different before they fully harden, which may take a day or two. I think those bright spots are pretty nice.

Very good focus for F/22 at 269mm shot from a monopod! You must have steady hands. I like the pose you captured with this guy and the wonderful blurred BG that really shows him off. Great capture.

Charlie:
Taking DF at 1/20sec on a monopod and getting sharp image  Well you achieved good DOF for your effort. Nice bg.

Pardon me for being so long in replying to comments about the shutter speed. After I saw the comments I thought that I must have missed another 0 but after searching out the RAW file, again, it was in fact 1/20th sec and at that time (8/08) I wasn't useing a tripod and was useing a monopod. Apparently this is correct. I often steadied a monopod agains a tree or other solid object to gain additional steadiness but I don't remember. Thanks all for comments.

Congratulations on your WP. The highlights in the eyes and the details in the wings really make this outstanding.
