A flower at Richmond Nature Park. I'm not sure what type of flower it is. Can anyone help with identification? And is it native to British Columbia, Canada? Any help is much appreciated.

Kristine,

Sorry, I can't help much with the ID. I'd guess it's some type of lily based on the pistil, stamens and petal shapes.

Welcome to the gallery by the way. I hope to see more of your flora images here.

Kristine:
I agree with Pat this is a lily. The color is nice. Wish the anthers are sharper instead of the petal tips are not cut off.

Welcome to Floral Kristine, you'll find the folks here wonderful and helpfull. I am terrible at ID's, but also think this a lily. I would like to see a full bloom without the petals clipped, and a little more sharp, but that is just me. I look forward to more.

Another welcome to Flora Kristine! This is a nice shot, but I do wish it was a little sharper on the anthers. I would think at 1/640 you would have reduced most of the motion blur, unless you were shooting handheld? My only suggestion might be to clone or crop that yellow spot on the left edge of the frame as it kind of pulls my eye away from the subject.

Looking forward to seeing more!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes everyone! :jump: Thank you so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it as I'm here, first and foremost, to learn. This was taken handheld which is why it's not sharper. I was out shooting wildlife but will definitely remember to make use of the tripod for steadier images. Thanks again and looking forward to seeing all of your work! :toast:

Kristine: Welcome to the finest Flora gallery on the planet and thanks for a fine first post. This is a day lily variant. They come in many different colors but some of the common characteristics are five anthers (pollen heads) and a lone pistil that looks like the pollen head was cut off. Each individual bloom lasts a single day, typically opening in the morning and then closing up and withering that evening. There are usually multiple buds on each stalk. In our area they bloom once a year and are pretty hardy but of course we never get cold weather like you do.

You've already received some good advice. Not sure I have anything to add but if you want to learn Flora photography this is the place. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more. >=))>
