Death Valley with Water!

In spring (Feb in the desert), 2010 I read on the web that Death Valley had experienced rain - enough to provide some standing water in Badwater basin. I knew this was a rare phenomenon, so we revved up the motorhome and headed that way. By the time we got there, most of the water had evaporated. But, our very first night there, it rained - a lot.

So first thing in the morning I was out and on my way to Badwater (~280' below sea level). And there it was; maybe an inch of water spread out across the basin. The reflections were stunning, the colors were saturated, it was a marvelous treat!

Beautiful reflection pan Margaret. Very well balanced image. It seems to me you are picking up alot of blue in the shadows. That can be solved in a couple of different ways. One way, use the blue slider in a selective color layer to reduce the blues if you have photoshop.

This is a very interesting processing job here, because the color reminds me of a 70's or 80's era Kodachrome that got printed out in a photo book and has faded just a little. Looks like some of my Muench books. I like the way the clouds balance out the mountains and shadows.

Neat to see the phenomenon. The reflection is nice.

This is really nice Margaret. A beautiful scene with a great reflection. I really enjoy the look of the colors here, and think Marc's description of them is very good. Your pano format works very nice too. :toast:
