White-Crowned Sparrow

Another from the same evening as the last. I haven't had any luck getting a signing one this year, but this one gave me some nice poses.

1DMkIV, 500mm f4 IS + 1.4 TC, Black Widow on Gitzo legs, f7.1, 1/3200, iso 1000, Av mode with -1.0 compensation. Nate commented on the shutter speed and f-stop of my last post. I was deliberately trying for take-off and landing shots that night, so I wanted as high a shutter speed as I could get. I got a few, but I need to work on my timing. This one was cropped to 7.8MP. Taken at 7:22 pm on July 1st.

I always appreciate your comments and criticisms.

Thanks for looking,

Great lighting and a solid pose Dennis. Slightly more room at the bottom perhaps. I have missed seeing these guys this year, a lot of birds just totally awol around here! :frown:

Dennis, This a great shot. Even with the high ISO, noise is very well controlled. It is very sharp. Well posed and well composed. I love the BG, the silky green.

What a nice background to bring out the details of the bird and perch, these guys never seem to stay still long enough for me, excellent shot, well done.

She's a beauty with excellent detail in the feathers and the eye color is well seen. I would bring down the brightness of the perch some as it is competing for my attention. Did you consider a more vertical crop?
