I've been away from home, and my photo gear for almost two months now. I'm looking forward to shooting again in just a few more days! Here's an image from back in May, in the Columbia River Gorge. I liked the way the freshly sprouted sword ferns seemed to lead into the scene.

Nikon D3, 16mm, polarizer
3 sec @ f/16, ISO 200

Comments and critique appreciated as always. Thanks for looking!

Lovely, verdant greens, Alex. As you mentioned, the ferns are a good lead in. It may be my monitor, but for my tastes I might tone down the whites in the water a little. Lovely otherwise.

Very very green...amazing colors.

Nice lead in with the ferns. A lower perspective may have helped them a bit more, but that's a matter of personal taste.

Overall a beautiful shot.

It's a bit heavy on contrast for me but definitely nicely composed. The circular shape of the ferns looks very interesting.

Excellently composed, Alex! You have a strong FG and set up the creek diagonally,
plus the colors are beautiful. I have no suggestions for improvement.

A nice comp, and good depth--an inviting scene for sure! At first i thought it was a bit soft, but after reading the comments, i think maybe its the contrast that is throwing me--with a bit lower contrast you might be able to eek out a bit more clarity (midtones). :wavey:

This is well composed. Very nice scene. And i love the ferns in the foreground......the contrast is a bit strong for my taste.

It's interesting to see the stream play such a secondary role because of its placement behind the two ferns and two tree trunks, a unique execution. And the vibrant greens work for me.

Those ferns do a fantastic job grounding the composition. The foreground trunks give an added sense of depth.

Alex, your image is full of inspiring freshness to my eye. I like the creek dividing the greens, the ferns are a nice counterpoint and introducution for me as well. I am sure a larger version would show delightful details.

Very nice Alex. This is a really interesting composition and I think it works great. I really like how you placed the foreground ferns in the scene. Great colors and I like the warm glow in the woods. I could see maybe a little less contrast too.

this is really nice - great progression of leading elements, the abstract line formed by the progression of ferns is repeated by the water, the curving diagonal lines of the tree trunks arcing into the corners is a nice touch - beautiful!

Wonderful, Alex! The fern is a great anchor, and I agree with Ben, the foreground trees add a lot of depth. I like the deep contrasts, and I think you did a great job at controlling the blacks while maintaining that contrast too. Looking forward to seeing more from this spring (and summer). Hope your tour went well!
