Common Sandpiper in a submissive pose. This behavior occurs when another bird come on the scene, The bird bows and lifts it wings submitting to the incoming bird. This seems to occur when either a sibling or an adult come near

This behavior also occurs during courtships prior to mating

Wonderfully interesting pose, and behavioral description. I also like the habitat you included. It all works together to make a very nice image.

Ron, The pose is very interesting, thanks for the information on the behavior. I have seen spotted sandpipers in similar poses but usually there wasn't another bird around and I suspect they were just stretching their wings. Nice light, eye contact, pose and I like the mossy rock. You don't mention id this was cropped but I would consider taking some off of the bottom to minimize the impact of the OOF leaves below the bird's head and a bit off of the left side.
