Willet in Evening Light
by Bill Leggett
I'm usually watching for low tides in the morning when the day breeze is relatively calm and cooler temps, but the trend here in the Mississippi Sound lately has been mornings relatively with high tides in the early hours. So this afternoon I went out to the Gulfport harbor area and found this cooperative Willet. I shot lots of duds(OOF, misframed and the usual garbage) but I liked this little slice of time I caught while the bird was at rest between quickly rummaging around making a living in the tidal pools. Cropped about 80% for comp. Larger image included.

9 commentsThis image gives me a nice peaceful feeling just looking at it, I can almost hear the water gently washing up on the shore and feel the Gulf breeze. I love the setting, the blues & tans of the water compliment the willet's color very well, the great headturn and profile of the face and bill. Lovely soft light, details and sharpness. Thanks for providing the larger version. This appeals to me a lot.
Good stuff.
