In The Glow

A while ago I posted the digital capture of this scene. I just finished processing the 4x5 transparency today. The compositions are a bit different. The detail and richness of this version is amazing compared to the digital capture.

Your feedback much appreciated.

4x5, 150mm, Fuji Provia 100f, Artixscan M1, PS CS3 and TK Masks.

The larger version is excellent. I love all those warm tones. The composition is perfect IMO.

Beautiful scene! The warm colors are wonderful. Really have to look at the large version of this to appreciate it more. I bet this would make a beautiful large print!

I prefer this version. The warmth and the color present in the quarter tones is quite nice. The way film, (I assume film with you saying it's film) hold and shoulders highlight detail is something that irks to me to no end with digital. I should say there is a way to trick digital files, to some degree, to resonate a film like presentation in appearance and in print. I see you flipped one of them. It looks similar to William Neill's "Half Dome and Elm", which me thinks the digital file is the correct orientation.
Regardless, this is a wonderful image. And the film version takes the cake.

Well done, Youssef. The detail is incredible even in the foreground grasses.
The image is well composed so that it doesn't feel tight at the top or bottom,
with just enough FG. The colors are very pretty and realistic. You took
advantage of good lighting and exposed the image well. I like the FG rock;
it makes a nice anchoring point. Your composition was well thought out.

Wonderful comp and light Youssef. I think the subtle rule-of-thirds with that leaning tree and foreground rock makes is subtly very appealing. Small version seems a bit oversharpened, but it made me open the larger version to see all the wonderful details.

This is wonderful, Youssef. I bet there's so much detail to admire in the 4x5 scan. To my eye, the palette is a bit warm and I might consider adding a bit of blue to restore the gray look of the granite cliff.

Thanks for the feedback. Guy, I struggled with the color in the granite quite a bit. I will give it a try and post a redo.

Youssef,

What a beautiful autumn image from the west end of El Cap meadow. I have many photographs of this tree, but never considered this comp. I love what you have captured here. Glad the 4x5 came out.

I would agree with Guy on the warmth, although you might consider some masking and just try and neutralize the wall rather than globally. Just a thought. Minor consideration anyways.

Would love this one in my collection!
