Black Tear

A while ago I posted a similar photo captured digitally on the same outing as I captured this one on 4x5. I have finally gotten around to processing the 4x5 version and here it is.

The shape caught my eye instantly and reminded me of a tear drop. The black color was something unique that I have not seen before on the stretch of the coast among the Tafoni sandstone. It at one point held water as a small tide pool, and some water still existed in the central amoeba shape, although there was a thin layer shimmering crystals on its surface, probably salt.

Your comments and critiques much appreciated.

For comparison, you can see the previous digital capture here

This is very much my kind of image, Youssef. I love the abstract patterns and interesting texture. Beautiful intimate work.

I like the comp and light on this version better. While Iike the minute detail it does feel a bit over-sharpened to me. Bottom edge looks OK. I know the actual print wouldn't have this issue, so it's not that big of deal. BTW, this looks totally "organic" in my mind.

I am not sure why this doesn't have more comments, but this is a beautifully done abstract, Youssef. The details, textures and shapes are really fascinating in this intimate scene.

i recall the digital version and i can see why this caught your eye. i'd love to see the tranny or a good print of this as i believe that it would be mesmerizing. The sharpening-for-web has, i think, made this very difficult to appreciate (one simply feels that it is oversharpened - but the bottom of the image suggests that it is not!). i also confess to finding your signature/watermark a little too distracting to really enjoy this work.

Wonderful, Youssef. I like this one better...colors seem a bit warmer, more in tune to the "crying tear". Nicely seen and captured.

A nice capture of a rare feature Youssef, the grain of the sand leaves a gritty taste in my mouth.
