After photographing a wonderful sunset at Cape Royal on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, I spotted the tiny sliver of the moon drop below the cloud deck on the way back to camp. This part of the forest is burned from a wildfire started by a lightning strike. I wandered about trying to get a good composition with the moon positioned just right. Its a bit noisy but I tried to reduce it in Lightroom.

I like it. Amazing how strong the moon looks here, sort of the way it does when it's just risen.

Hamed, I did try to lighten the clouds but there was so much noise that I decided to leave it dark. Would have been nice to see a little more detail in there but oh well.

I like the shot: the sunset glow, the trees, and of course the moon. What would you think about cropping it just above the trees, it seems to give more emphasis on the moon without the dark sky.

That's a good idea, Allen. I think its more balanced with a crop. Thanks!

I agree, I think a crop here would improve this greatly. The placement of the moon is just perfect. Lovely shot Phil.

A brilliant image, Phillip. The overall color and placement of the moon amongst the trees really makes this special. The cropped version has a perfect balance imho. Super shot!!

Really beautiful, Phillip. I love the moon here, and the forms of the trees stand out so nicely against the clean sky.
