Looking Down!

Made my first hike up to Blue Lakes in the San Juan Mountains of southern Colorado a couple weeks ago. I think I found heaven on earth! The place was incredible! This was taken on the (steep) trail above lower Blue Lake. I know there is a bit of wide angle distortion but I wanted to give the viewer a sense of how steep the slopes were and how high above the lake we were. The distortion, I think, adds to this feeling so I decided to leave it.

C&C Welcome

Canon 5D MkII, 16-35mm @16mm, 1/13 sec. at f/22, ISO 800, polarizer, tripod, insane wildflowers.

That is really nice, Phillip. Very interesting perspective and I like the emphasis on the foreground flowers.

I love this comp Phil. Starting from the wildflowers, to the lake, to the rock glaicer, to the tundra and trees; beautiful layering of colors.

Nice! The feeling of height and steepness comes across quite clearly. Fantastic foreground does not hurt!

I am loving the colors of the lake and framing of the flowers works nicely too. (They look a little oversharpened on my monitor BTW). Very cool shot - I love the depth perception as well.

I like the sense of height and steepness Phillip. Not sure if a lens distortion correction would help straighten the trees in the center left but leave the sense of height and steepness in tack (minor). Fantastic color throughout.

I really expected more comments on this. Anyway, for my tastes it is a wonderful scene. The flowers are superb and the rich blue of the lake is quite sublime. Very nice work.

This perspective reminds me a lot of a shot I took several years ago up in the North Cascades. Love the colors, especially that glacial blue, which looks like something out of the Canadian rockies! Well done Phillip!
