Getting Swept Away

Gosh, it seems like it's been forever since I last posted something. I've recently changed careers at my ripe old age, and have been training and learning for the past 2-3 months so I haven't enjoyed much spare time.

Anyway, I thought I would post this one taken back in the spring. I had to wait a few minutes and shoot more than a few frames to catch the wave exactly where I wanted it, but I liked the way it turned out. I decided against cleaning up (cloning) any of the beach debris as it's natural stuff and part of the beach.

LARGE version available for better detail.

D2x w/ 70-200 VR @ 150mm
1/15 @ f/16 - MLU and mc-30 remote release
100 ISO
No filters
Tripod
Capture One 6, CS4, TK's wonderful actions

Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Hi Bill, I have missed seeing your work lately! Easy to see why here. This has a wonderful delicate feel to it, which I really enjoy. Beautiful composition makes this work so nice. This is one of those images that you can just set back and enjoy for awhile. Glad you left it as it is here.

Hey Bill,

Yeah, it's been quite a while since you've posted - even longer than me! Sure glad you decided to post this one. This one has a classic beach look and feel to it, yet it also feels unique at the same time. I like the imperfections here of the broken shell and even the break in the wave pattern washing on the shore. I also like the hint of corral pink in the sand. This is just a lovely seaside image.
Welcome back and hope the new job is going well.

Even though you've not posted in a while, Bill, you've obviously not lost any of your skills in terms of capturing and presenting some great light. This is another scene I could never imagine shooting or working on and you make it look so good that I wonder what's wrong with me. Really nice!

Very delicate. I like the square format, which works well for this picture.

Excellent vision here, Bill. I think, personally, I would like to see the image framed in a way that excludes some of the darker beach debris, natural as it might be. As it is though, I think the various pieces provide good balance from their ideal placements in the image.

A lovely image, Bill. The swooshing motion of the water adds a beautiful abstract quality that highlights the clarity of the beach debris, and in particular, the broken shell. Enchanting indeed!

Very light and delicate. The only part of the debris that is detracting to me is the long, dark piece. I don't know if you'd want to try cloning that out sometime, but just to me the image would be absolutely perfect without that one piece.

Beautiful light and detail, Bill! I love the elegant simplicity of this image. The movement of the water you have captured here, creates some nice texture and adds a strong compositional element.

Neat shot! I'm assuming that the streaks in the top half are wave motion and wondering how you got both that and the sharp foreground debris. The two elements really work well together here.

I have to completely agree with Tony here. By looking at the content, I'm not sure I would stop and take notice of what's there. But you sure put it all together in a wonderful presentation!

Bill,,,,,,,your feel for this environment always shines through. Walking a Florida beach is a delight of small detail and texture but it is also terribly difficult to capture. The motion of the water and broken shell tells the story of the ever changing shore line.

Love the delicate, almost high-key quality to the light. Really complements the broken shell and the sand. The square format works very well. Hope the job is working out well.

A very fine-art presentation here, Bill! I really like the almost lack of shadows and the dreamy feel given by the wave.
