Heron encounter 1 of 4

Too much glass, harsh light, clearly too close to my subject by accident it happens do you blow the chance or go with it. I chose the latter and it made my day.

I have always found Herons difficult they spooke easy and they are gone. This one was different as the twenty four images reveal. All the action in just 6.8 seconds. With just two deleted images.

Canon 1D3 Canon 800mm hand held from vehicle used as hide. RAW to lightroom then resized to post.1/640sec f/10 ISO800.

Thanks for looking

lovely detail in the heron, don't blame you for taking it its just a shame it was too close, you will have to buy a shorter lense and second body to go with the monster 800   !!look foward to the rest in series :toast:

Hi Barry,

I agree with Phil and Keith, go for it every time as you never know how situations are going to pan out. Exposure on the Heron looks good considering the lighting.

What was the intended prey, Damsels or Fish?

Thanks for the comments guy's all will be revealed in 48hrs or so with the next three posts you can almost sense the action as it happens and the point that I found so fascinating was the sheer speed of the action. From start to finish 6.8 seconds as indicated by the data from the Raw files.

The Dragonfly activity added more fun they are not dust bunnies.

I love its scrawny, bedraggled appearance. The next images should be interesting.
